ST MARGARET'S C OF E PRIMARY SCHOOL

Science

We recognise the importance of science in every aspect of daily life and aim to develop an enthusiasm and enjoyment of scientific learning within our children. Every child has a weekly science lesson in Key Stage 1 and 2, following the aims of the National Curriculum. In EYFS, science is taught by the children learning to understand their world through play and discovery. Our teachers create a positive attitude to science learning, with an expectation that all children are able to develop their scientific knowledge and understanding. Curiosity is celebrated in the classroom and children are encouraged to ask and research their own questions.

Scientific skill base

Science is taught in blocks covering each of the key disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Our teaching develops children’s scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding, which we build upon each year. We see developing children’s range of scientific enquiry skills as a vital contribution to their working scientifically progression. Children will develop investigative and analytical skills crucial to deepen their scientific knowledge. These will be presented using their English skills, ICT, data handling, graphs and charts. We endeavour to ensure that the science curriculum we provide will give children the confidence, scientific language and motivation to continue to further develop their skills in the next stage of their education.
