ST MARGARET'S C OF E PRIMARY SCHOOL

Our Governing Body

All schools have a Governing Body made up of volunteers who give of their own time.

St Margaret’s has an active Governing Body who involve themselves in the everyday life of the school and work closely with the Headteacher in making decisions about the school and planning for future development.

School governors provide strategic leadership and accountability in schools, and strive to promote high standards of educational achievement.

Geoff Sheath, Co-chair of Governors

Functions of the Governing Body
In all schools, governing bodies should have a strong focus on three core strategic functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent. The headteacher is responsible for the internal organisation, management and control of the school and the implementation of the strategic framework established by the Governing Body.

Governing a Church of England school
A Church of England school has a dual purpose, providing education for children of Christian families and those living locally who may be of another, or no faith.

The governors of a church school represent the three authorities with a direct interest in the school: The Parochial Church Council (PCC) of the Plumstead Common United Benefice, The Southwark Diocesan Board of Education (SDBE) and The Royal Borough of Greenwich. Parents and staff are also represented on the Governing Body. The work of the Governing Body is supported by a range of committees which oversee particular aspects of school life. Governors will also meet with phase leaders, subject leaders, other members of staff and parents during their regular visits to the School. These visits always include time with pupils to hear their views on our school.

We want to hear from you
The Governing Body is always interested to hear the views of parents and carers.

If you would like to discover more about the work of the governors or perhaps find out about becoming a governor yourself, please contact the Headteacher, Anna Sullivan or Geoff Sheath/Roberta Forgie, Co-Chairs of Governors, via the School Office.
